Monthly Skill Focus

February: Understanding Time Management

February's theme is all about Time Management. This month, we've focused on helping our clients develop the skills they need to manage their time effectively, balancing their various responsibilities and commitments. Our goal is to provide them with practical strategies and tools to make the most of their time and achieve their goals.

For example, we teach clients how to prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and create effective schedules. We also explore techniques for minimizing distractions and staying focused, such as using timers, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and setting aside specific times for study and relaxation.

Additionally, we help our clients understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This includes managing their time to ensure they have enough rest, exercise, and leisure activities, which are crucial for their overall well-being and productivity.

Through these activities and discussions, we aim to equip our clients with the knowledge and skills they need to manage their time efficiently. February is dedicated to teaching and empowering them to take control of their schedules, reduce stress, and achieve a balanced and fulfilling life.

Diving Deeper

First Program Graduate and Anti-Bullying Project

We are excited to announce that we are in the early phases of planning for our first successful graduate from the program in June. This milestone is particularly special as our graduate is spearheading an anti-bullying project to raise funds for The Trevor Project.

This project was chosen by our client and has been a year-long endeavor. Due to the client's age and the current lack of apprenticeship providers, we encouraged the client to undertake a project of their choice. The project evolved over time, incorporating each month's theme, and provided valuable lessons in setting up, planning, and developing a comprehensive initiative. With the support of community members, we are now looking to secure services, and items for the project - we have secured a location. The fundraising event will be a carnival-themed event to raise funds for The Trevor Project, with a goal of raising $1,500. A donation link will be provided closer to the event and will be through The Trevor Project.

To make this event a success, we will need your help! The estimated cost of the event is currently $1,000. We are working with the client to have them better understand how to engage community to get donations of funds and items to make the event a success and be as cost effective as possible. Current wish list includes providing food (pizza), games with prizes, tables and chairs, marketing materials, decorations and the potential for other local businesses to partake as vendors. We hope to have 150 attendees, each donating at least $10 to reach his fundraising goal. Your support in funding, donating and attending this event will make a significant impact.

Upcoming Events: Pride Festival

Mark your calendars! House-Raising will be participating in the Minneapolis Pride Festival from June 27th to 29th at Loring Park. We will be in the youth/teen section, and we need volunteers to help us make this event a success. Join us in celebrating diversity and supporting our mission.
