"Love your name & logo, but what do they mean!?"
At House-Raising, our goal is to elevate youth and build community (see what I did there?). The term "House-Raising" comes from an old western tradition referring to a group of neighbors coming together to help build a house or its framework for one of their members. Similarly, we believe that a strong community is essential for transforming the lives of the youth we serve. Each member of the community contributing to the skills, knowledge, opportunities and support for each youth to find their way through life and pursue their passions. This strengthens the likelihood of the youth avoiding further recidivism (re·cid·i·vism: the tendency to reoffend).
Our logo, a side profile of a face being formed by squares coming together, symbolizes this collective effort. Each member of the community offering a different piece of the youth's foundation, helping in shaping who the youth can choose to become. Through community support, we aim to embed youth in their communities, demonstrating that many people are invested in their success and guiding them as they follow their passions.

Empowering Youth With Basic Skills
Each month, we focus on teaching our youth different basic living skills. In July, we covered perseverance and resiliency. August was dedicated to plan development, helping youth learn how to plan for the future and everyday tasks. This September, we are focusing on technology use, teaching how to utilize technology effectively while understanding its potential negative aspects.
We welcome content experts to come in and share your knowledge with our clients (and us because who doesn't like to learn!). This month we have our first guest speaker who has a background in IT. She will be educating us all on the pros and cons of technology. She also happens to be one of House-Raising's board members!

Catch up with our clients!
Our pre-teen clients (ages 10-13) are engaged in a yearlong project with House-Raising, incorporating our monthly themes. They will engage in community volunteer opportunities and field trips to deepen their connection to the basic skills curriculum and their community. Don't worry, field trips will be offered to our youth ages 14 - 25 as well. While our pre-teen clients are too young for apprenticeships, they are gaining hands-on experience and learning valuable skills through these projects and experiences.
Current projects explored include ways of giving back to the community.
- Food Drive
- Clothes Drive
- Anti-bullying Campaign
- Raising Funds for the Trevor Project
Our current client is exploring how to combine aspects of these projects into one to make the biggest impact that relates to issues close to their heart.

Apprenticeships
We are actively seeking community businesses in the arts or trades willing to provide apprenticeship opportunities for our clients. We currently have one partner and are looking to expand our network. If you know of any businesses that might be interested, please let us know!

Volunteer
We are looking for additional volunteers who can dedicate their time to support various areas of our work. If you're passionate about our mission and want to get involved, please reach out!

Since becoming a recognized 501(c)(3) in Fall 2022, we've been blessed with generous donations averaging $9,000 each year. This support has been crucial in getting us to where we are today, covering our basic essential costs like rent and office supplies.
As we continue to grow and welcome our first clients, our financial needs are also expanding. To sustain and enhance our programs, we aim to increase our annual donations. Your continued support will help us cover additional costs and move towards our goal of having paid staff dedicated to our mission.
Thank you to all our donors for believing in our mission and helping us build a brighter future for our youth. Every contribution, no matter the size, has created opportunities for our client, and future clients, in finding a path out and away from the legal system.
